Scream 5 is an American slasher film written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. It is the fifth installment in the Scream film series. Though billed as a relaunch of the film series, the film is a direct sequel to Scream 4 (2011), and the first in the series not to be directed by Wes Craven, who died in 2015.

Scream 5 2022 Film Review:

The film is also hilarious. Almost every joke they attempt lands. Dewey is undoubtedly the funniest one, but the other cast members certainly have their moments too. There are a lot of clever in-jokes as well (referring to things like David Arquette and Courtney Cox’s divorce) that are just subtle enough to work. I really like that kind of stuff.

I was very happy when I heard the director’s of ‘Ready or Not’ would be taking on this film, because that was a very impressive movie and proved they had the chops to take on a film this important. If they are interested in carrying the series forward I would be very happy to for that to be the case.

One small criticism I have to mention unfortunately. This is the second ‘Scream’ film in a row that has done it too. What is with the empty hospitals? A decent chunk of this movie takes place in a hospital and every time it is convenient there isn’t a soul in sight. I love the eerie setting it creates, however it can be just a little too unrealistic to stomach.

This is only the second film I’ve ever been to where the audience has given a standing ovation at the end. It did help that it was opening night, and the audience seemed to be very switched on to the in-jokes (telling me that they are likely big fans of the series). But I genuinely think they were just blown away by the quality of the film. This is a no doubt 10/10 for me. Wes would be proud.
