Just left an advanced screening & I won’t say much but if you loved the originals you must watch this! The story, writing, acting & most importantly the detail in the film were top notch! The death scenes look truly fantastic! Get out & see this asap.So, having rewatched the series again in preparation, we went to the cinema to see “Scream”. I felt that it was fine, but that “Scream 4” did a better job of nailing post-postmodern horror than this one did of honouring whatever new trends in horror and pop culture they might have used. It’s good, but not perhaps great.

When her sister is attacked in her home, in an assault similar to those made infamous by the Stab movies, Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) returns to Woodsboro with her boyfriend Richie (Jack Quaid) to make sure she’s OK. As the calls and the murders continue, and Sam comes to believe that the killer is in Tara’s (Jenna Ortega) circle of friends, she calls an expert for help, former Sherriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette). Sam though has a secret, one that caused her to leave Woodsboro several years ago and one that might be the key to who is behind the attacks.

With reboots no longer quite as in vogue, “Scream” is both actually, and in the meta sense within the film, a requel. A new story, with mostly new characters, but with a sprinkling of legacy characters to lend their legitimacy to the story. It works in that regard, it’s a clever-ish story with plenty of homages to the previous films and some actors from the series, other than the big three, returning to their roles.
